Sophia Shorai is a vocalist driven by an intuitive hunger for the "great song." A mainstay of the Minneapolis music scene since 2010, she possesses the rare, chameleonic ability to inhabit any genre—from the complex architecture of the Great American Songbook to the raw grit of soul, funk, and R&B.
Her musical precision was forged early, mimicking jazz legends from her father’s record collection and beginning classical training at age five. Shorai bypassed prestigious conservatories (Berklee and New School) to dive straight into the Twin Cities’ live and commercial recording circuits, turning her voice into a versatile powerhouse heard in international films, TV shows, and major advertising campaigns since the late 90s.
While renowned for her mastery of the jazz idiom, Shorai’s current work explores the lean, emotive landscapes of contemporary soul and pop. Collaborating with producer Bryan Hanna, she strips away the decorative to focus on the bone-deep impact of her original songwriting. Her new album, TIME, arrives in Spring 2026—a testament to a career spent proving she can sing anything, and a soul that won't settle for anything less than a classic.
